Down To The Sea Again

I went down to the sea again today
and felt the serenity of its embrace
The mesmerizing rhythm of the waves
lulled me into drifting in time

As I watched the waters cascade against the beach
I wondered where they had journeyed from
And what or who had brought them here
to this time and place upon my shore

Was it simply random and indifferent physics
or was it beyond mere chance
Was it predestined that we should meet
and come together in such harmony

Oh waters of life
I can feel your awesome powers
Are the songs I hear
echoes of my primordial roots

We both have the purity
of the beginning of time
But also carry the death of a star
within our basic chemistry

Does life always require death
as a prerequisite for beginning
Or is there a hidden consciousness
unknown to us both

Tell me water brother/sister
do you ever wonder
What its dreams
must be like within its domain

Do you think the tides
play with both of us
And, if they do so
would we even be able to fathom their ultimate purpose

And, as you continue on your journey
think upon this my ancestor
Who controls the tides
and who plays with them
